Embroidery Eyes Tutorial

Embroidery eyes can give an extra handmade touch to any crochet toys. They are the perfect alternative to plastic safety eyes.

I highly recommend to embroider the eyes if you make toys for babies or children under the age of 3, as they are safe.

There are many type of eyes, but I usually use this one. I will discover more in the future and share with you.

Steps to make embroidery eyes for crochet toys:

1: position 5 pins as shown on the photo

2: Using a long strand of embroidery thread and needle insert the needle at the back of the head of the toy.  Leave a long tail for tying it later. Bring the needle up into the 1st position of the eye. Always remove the pins as you go.

3: Insert needle into the 2nd position and bring it out in the 3rd position.

4: Insert the needle back in the 2nd position and bring in out in the 4th position.

At this point it should look like this.

5: Insert the needle in 3rd position and bring it up in the 5th position.

6: Insert the needle in 3rd position and bring the needle out at the same place on the back of the head where we started. Tie the tails together and hide the tail ends inside the head.

Repeat for the other eye.
