I have to be honest here. In the last 42 years I was sure the Pierrot clown is from France and it is truly French. Well I was wrong. Pierrot clowns come from Italy from the late seventeenth- century and they performed in France. It was such a big surprise for me, but also a pleasant surprise. I wanted to make something about Italy for such a long time, because of my love for this extremely bubbly country and I just did without knowing it.

My love for Italy started in my teenager years, a bit after my love for Australia. The language, the food, the temperament of the people, the architecture and the countryside are all something I love. Before I moved to England, I had a  few countries on my list where to move and Italy was one of them. Unluckily I didn’t speak the language that time so I was scared to go. Now I would survive there so it is back to my list where I will live next.

I was never a big fan of clowns, I think they are creepy and not even that funny, but I really like their appearance. Especially the Pierrot clown’s. That simple black and white is just too stylish. Reminds me of one of my idols, Coco Chanel.

The story of Pierrot, the Clown:

Pierrot is a very happy, cheerful, entertaining little boy, who loves to dress up as a clown and pretend to be sad. He does it because of his love for acting. Pierrot and Bruno, the llama are best friends and they perform together front of big audiences. They like nothing more, than a big applause at the end of their shows. Pierrot is dreaming about a life in Paris and to become a famous clown.

Caution!

Please be very cautious when you make toys for babies or children under the age of 3. If you sew parts on it, make sure they are secure and safe.

I recommend, to embroider the eyes, as the plastic safety eyes can be dangerous. My tutorial for embroidery eyes can be found here
